We purchased our CAT 420D Backhoe Loader a few years ago and were lucky enough for it to be the 100,000th CAT Backhoe. CAT produced an article about us.
The following is a snippet from the story:
When Jim Bertram & Sons Construction Inc., purchased their new CAT 420D Backhoe Loader, their decision was based on a long history with Caterpillar excavating equipment – as well as a long and trusted relationship with their local CAT dealer.
“We’ve always been happy with CAT machines,” remarks Jim Jr. “Dad has been longtime friends with the father of our current CAT representative. We know we can depend on reliable service from our CAT dealer.”
The Bertrams chose the 420D Backhoe Loader equipped with the extend-a-stick configuration for, among many reasons, operator ease, comfort and safety. “The joystick controls are just like the CAT Excavators, so an operator can easily jump from one machine to the other,” says Jim Jr. He adds that the machine’s pattern changer makes it an easy switch for operators used to running other brand machines. “All they have to do is pull a pin, switch the lever, and they’re up and running”
He also notes the wide visibility front and rear to any of the work tools from the air-conditioned cab. Switching those tools is a fast change with the machines’s manual quick coupler. The loader is equipped with a standard general purpose bucket used for a variety of excavation projects like hauling material, backfilling and grading. The backhoe is equipped with 18 and 24-inch buckets and is plumbed for a soil compactor.
